This is something dark I'd written years ago. So many years ago I forget. LOL

This is only chapter one, but I'd like to know what you all think. Is this something you'd like me to continue? Let me know!

Eryl encounters beings from another realm, and when she wakes up, she has no idea who she is.

Surrounded in darkness, I stood in the center of a clearing. Moonlight struggled to reach me, but the trees above stretched their arms out as if determined to block out any hope of light. I could hardly see beyond a few feet in front of me.

The crunch of leaves and twigs beneath my feet cut though the silence as I shifted from one foot to another. My eyes widened but I couldn’t see any clearer, and the shadows before me seemed to grow even darker. A shiver traveled up my back and through my limbs as fear consumed the little courage I had. Invisible eyes peered at me from the darkness, eyes concocted by my fearful imagination. Unknown creatures could have been stalking me as their prey, and I would never have seen them coming.

I searched the trees and wished for light. As if my wish had been granted, a great wind blew the branches, tangled my hair across my face, and a trickle of light found me.

A whisper came with the wind – a whisper that brought with it a minute calming effect.

“Don’t worry. I’m here.”

I spun in search of the voice. A man’s voice. My thoughts were only on finding its source when a series of growls filled the air.

My feet moved to run, but the whisper warned me, “Don’t move.” As if frozen by the glaring eyes of Medusa, I stood still. The calm I’d felt only moments before was replaced with blazing terror. My eyes moved about, still searching blindly through the darkness but finding nothing. My legs begged to move, to flee danger, but my mind willed them still. I could feel my heart beating against my chest, my breath quickening to near hyperventilation.

The growls moved closer, so close I could feel the heat of the beasts circling me. But when a twig snapped just feet away, I screamed and darted into the darkened woods.

A deep voice yelled out, “NO!”

The sound made my feet stop. Desperate to protect myself from the unseen, I dropped to the ground and curled up into a ball.

Something jumped over me. Though I couldn’t see, I could feel the movement. Whatever it was collided with something else and a fight ensued. I was so focused on the snarls and grunts of the fighting beasts that I didn’t hear the one approaching me.

Strong hands wrapped around my torso, yanked me from my position on the ground, and carried me at an incredible speed through the woods. This was a man, I was sure, but I did not feel safe. My instincts warned me that this was no friend of mine.

I cried out, digging my nails into the hands of my captor, trying with all my strength to loosen his hold. There was no point in trying, really. His grip was firm and my attempts useless.

Trees rushed by at such speed the branches ripped into me as they whipped against the skin of my face and arms. When he came to a stop, I kicked and scratched at him until he shifted, capturing my body so I couldn’t move. I swung my head from side to side and screamed until I felt my throat would bleed.

He let loose his hold on my legs and secured my face. Before I could react, something stabbed into my shoulder, and my body caught fire.

The fire produced no light, but I could feel my body burning, acid searing through my veins as I kicked and screamed.

Poison, I thought, it must be poison.

With a laugh, he dropped me, but I felt no impact. My body was numb. Consumed in torture as it fell to the earth.

I don’t know how long I lay in pain, my hands curled like claws, my legs twisted beneath me, my body contorting in ways I never imagined possible, but eventually, I was found.

My sight had been stolen, so I couldn’t see the owner of the arms that wrapped around me, but they were strong, comforting, and familiar. A musky scent assaulted my nose and I recognized it, but as my body was still fighting against the poison rushing through my limbs, I couldn’t focus my mind enough to place it. Quick breaths brushed against the side of my face, and then I heard a voice.

“I’m so sorry,” he choked.

I tried to speak, but my lips were glued shut. And as much as I tried, they would not part.

“My love…my life,” he sobbed.

My body was pressed against his warm skin.

“I love you,” he choked between sobs.

I - I love you, too.

“I know,” he breathed. “Please, stay with me.”

Y- you can hear me?

“Yes.”

The fact that I was speaking was impossible for my mind to grasp. I could feel nothing but the fire that devoured me.

It hurts.

“I know, baby, I know.”

Promise me you’ll be safe.

“I – I can’t.”

No! P-promise me!

I felt my body reacting in anger, my chest heaving with my struggled breath. I was trying to picture his face in my mind, but I couldn’t even remember what color his hair was.

You…must…

“Shh…” I felt his hands run through my hair in a soothing gesture that offered no relief. “I promise.”

I c-can’t breathe.

“I’ll be your breath,” he sobbed, and his lips pressed against mine.

Through the pain I could feel myself responding to the kiss, more than any other feeling in my body, my emotions overcame it all. I sobbed into his mouth as I felt myself start to float away, unconsciousness consuming me, and I heard him wail into the night. His cry echoed around me until I faded into oblivion.
